Antonia (“Toni”) Marie Girten, age 76 of Byron, Illinois, died on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Generations at Neighbors Nursing Home. Toni was born December 17, 1947 in Kalamazoo, Michigan the daughter of Robert and Rose (Oddo) Good. She grew up in Gull Lake, Michigan. She married James (“Jim”) Girten on September 2, 1967 at St. Ann’s Church in Gull Lake. They moved to Illinois and Toni worked as an office manager at A.B. Dick Company in Niles, Illinois. Toni was also the head volunteer of the AARP Tax Aide program for Northern Illinois for many years and was a member of the Windy City Brushes. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt who loved to spend as much time as possible with her friends and family. She loved teaching and creating artwork with her family and friends.
Toni is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jim of Sterling; her only son, Mike (Jodi) Girten of Byron; her grandchildren: Justin, Joseph, Mia and Molly; and her great-grandson: Oakley; Siblings: Fred (Sandy) Good, Drusilla (Steve) Kulish, Roberta (John Smith) Good and brother-in-law Tom (Betty) Girten; her nephews and niece: Tyler (Tammy) Good, Bradley (Angelia) Good, Jeremy (Emily) Rheynard, Shawn (Jessica) Scholfield, Rick (Kelley) Scholfield, Tom (Lisa) Girten, and Amanda (Ray) Strahan. She is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family would like to express gratitude to the entire staff at Generations at Neighbors Nursing Home for the compassionate care and assistance Toni received while being at the facility.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at All Saints Lutheran Church in Byron, Illinois for all friends and family.
