Barbara E. Montgomery

Barbara Ellen Montgomery, 81, of Belvidere IL passed away on Friday December 13, 2024 at
Saint Anthony Hospital in Rockford with family by her side after a long battle with kidney
disease.

Barbara was born 12-11-43 in Lena, IL to Harry Leo Hayes and Helen Viola Gentz Hayes. She
married James R Montgomery in 1970, who she met when they worked together at Automatic
Electric in Genoa, IL. Together they raised their 2 children and James’ 2 children from a
previous marriage in Kirkland IL until James’ untimely passing in 1985.

Barb had many hobbies and interests. She loved gardening, crocheting and dabbled in quilting.
She had a very green thumb and could grow the biggest, most beautiful tomatoes you have
ever seen. She loved anything British, but especially tea and Queen Elizabeth. Her dreams
came true when, after she saved for a long time, she took a trip to England. She was an
excellent cook and baker, and an avid collector of recipes.

Barb is survived by her son James (Karen) Montgomery, daughter Lisa (Sean) Cerney, step
daughter Julie (Rick) Nelson, and step daughter Tina Montgomery. Grandchildren Derek,
Andrew, Adelaide, Raelin, Josie, Penny, Allycia, Kyle, Amber & Tyler, as well as many nieces
and nephews. Also special niece Linda, and dear friend Sue.

Barb is preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Montgomery. She never stopped
loving or missing him. In her final days, she reminisced very fondly of their time together.
