Charlotte Wells Obituary

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Charlotte Wells, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many who was called to heaven on May 14th, 2025, at the age of 83.

Born on October 1st, 1941, Charlotte was the daughter of Hobart and Ethel Smith. Charlotte lived a full and active life. She was married to Hezekiah (Jack) Wells for 53 years with whom she shared a deep love until his passing in 2013. Jack and Charlotte were parents to four sons and raised them in the home they built in Boone County in 1965.

Charlotte was an avid and talented gardener. She grew a wide variety of fruits and vegetables and developed her collection of daylilies over many years. She enjoyed “garden walks” with visiting friends – showing them her lilies, poppies, and other perennials. Charlotte also enjoyed sewing, crafts, and quilting - a passion passed down from her mother.

Music was another joy in her life. Her father was a fiddler, her husband, Jack, sang and played the guitar, and her son, Rick, plays the piano. She always appreciated hearing the music at church and family gatherings. From bluegrass to gospel, she loved the familiarity of the timeless songs she knew.

Throughout their lives together, Charlotte and Jack were always active church members, and they were able to spend their early retirement years wintering in Arizona where they enjoyed warm weather, longtime friends, and pursuing hobbies.

Later in life, Charlotte was a resident at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center where she was loved by residents and cared for by an exceptionally caring and compassionate staff. She participated in special events, games, and crafting – and attended chapel services and concerts. She will be remembered at Fairhaven as kind and genuinely appreciative by all who knew her and cared for her.

Charlotte is survived by her sons, Chris Wells and his wife Georgia, Rick Wells and his wife Stacy, Michael Wells and his wife Lori, and Keith Wells and his wife Carly; grandchildren, Bonni Randall, Lee England, Jackson and Reagan Wells, Caleb, Noah, and Riley Wells, and Cory and Ian Wells; great grandchild, Chloe Wells.

Visitation will be on Monday May 19th from 11 a.m. until noon at the Chapel of Memories in Highland Garden of Memories, 9700 Route 76, Belvidere. A graveside service for family members will follow the visitation.

Your kindness and support are greatly appreciated during this time of remembrance.
