Daniel Lewis Egebrecht, 71, of Belvidere, IL, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on September 25, 2024.
Born on October 15, 1952, in Chicago, IL, Dan was a loving father to Mark, Colleen (Hays), Glen, and Brenda, and a devoted stepfather to Belle Suarez and Zihan Qiu. He is survived by his younger brothers, Phillip Michael Egebrecht of West Chicago and Stewart Egebrecht of Cocoa, FL. Dan was preceded in death by his father, Phillips Egebrecht, and his mother, Dinah Klemmedson (nee Crain).
A gifted musician with "perfect pitch”, Dan’s true passion lay in music composition. He attended the Chicago Conservatory of Music and Roosevelt University. He played guitar, piano and sang in a local group called “The Lost Cause” (later named “North Branch”) from 1968 to 1977. He found immense joy in writing songs and sharing them with others, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of experiencing his work. His works can be found on his YouTube Channel titled “Dan Egebrecht”.
From 1973 to 1986, Dan worked in data processing at the Sears Tower. His experience brought him to the Belvidere Chrysler Plant and then to SunGard Disaster Recovery. More recently, Dan transitioned into sales and his kind and gentle personality brought him success and recognition in this field. A master of puns, his unique sense of humor had a remarkable ability to brighten anyone's day.
Dan also had a lifelong love for trains. He found joy in train watching and was an avid collector of train signals and equipment. His enthusiasm for trains was a reflection of his curious spirit and appreciation for the world around him.
Daniel's legacy of love, creativity, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date, where family and friends can come together to share memories and honor his spirit.
