Danny Lee Simpson, 77, of Belvidere, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home in his
easy chair of heart failure. Danny was born on June 21, 1948 to Thurman and Cordie
Simpson.
On July 19, 1969, Danny married the love of his life, Marilyn Dianne Smith, in their
hometown of Jonesboro, Arkansas. The couple moved to Illinois in January of 1970,
where Danny began his long and dedicated career at the Chrysler Automotive
Assembly Plant in Belvidere. He retired as a Journeyman Pipefitter after over 30 years
of service.
Danny was a man of many talents and passions. He loved his family, camping, fishing
and working on anything with a motor. A gifted carpenter and all-around handyman, he
was always ready to lend a hand to family and friends with their projects-no matter how
big or small.
He is survived by his children: Tracy Simpson (Mark Rarig) of Woodinville, WA; Monica
Simon (Michael) of Belvidere, IL; Marcus Simpson (Lisa) of Loves Park, IL; and foster
daughter Susie Pearson (Andrew) of Belvidere, IL. He was a proud grandfather to
Taylor, Abigail, and Mason Simon; Spencer and Riley Simpson.
Danny is also survived by four of his five brothers; James Simpson (Shirley); Reuben
Simpson (Doris); Carson Simpson (Annella); and Allen Simpson. He is proceeded in
death by his wife Dianne, his parents Thurman and Cordie, his in-laws Dewon and
Anne, and his brother Anthony. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces,
nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Danny’s legacy of kindness, craftsmanship and unwavering support for those he loved
will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025 in the Pettit Memorial Chapel in Belvidere Cemetery, 1121 N Main St. Belvidere, with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment in Belvidere Cemetery to follow.
