David Langan

David Langan, 78 of Belvidere, Illinois passed peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of July 4th with his family near his side.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Barbara of 60 years, his daughter, Kim of Greenfield, Wisconsin and his son Shane (Suzanne) of Rifle, Colorado.  Through them and his grandchildren his spirit will live on.  Jess (Patrick) Wichman of Milwaukee, David (Kim) Wichman of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Jordan (Max) Langan of Seattle and Luke Langan of Rifle, Colorado along with his great-grandson, Desmond.

David was born in Elgin, Illinois on June 3, 1946 and raised on a local farm in Marengo, Illinois with his 4 brothers.  In the fall of 1970 he and Barbara purchased a dairy farm in Willard, Wisconsin where they tirelessly worked along with their kids until 1993 when Dave and Barb decided it was time for a change.  At that time they moved to Onalaska, Wisconsin and he became a long haul semi driver.  For a brief period he and Barb travelled together driving across the country.  He continued his driving career solo for another 15 years.

In 2013 upon retiring Dave returned to Illinois and he and his wife purchased their retirement home in Belvidere, where they made many new friends in their subdivision.  Dave started a huge garden in their backyard and provided fresh produce for many friends, family and neighbors.  He continued to remain available for his children with words of wisdom and help whenever needed.

A celebration of life will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 412 Jackson St, Marengo, on Saturday, July 20th at 1 pm.  This will be a casual gathering as that’s the way Dave would have preferred.  In lieu of flowers, his wife would prefer, if you wish, a donation towards the graveside monument.
