Donna M. Aden (nee Holmes) passed from this life into eternal life on July 23, 2024. Born January 29,1930 Rockford, IL the only child of Albin and Florence Holmes (nee Johnson). She attended Rockford schools graduating from East High School and married the love of her life, Robert D. Aden in 1950.
Donna was a legal secretary for Nelson & Nelson Attorneys; Twin Disc Sales Department secretary; Manufacturing sales secretary National Lock Hardware; Atwood Vacuum Machine Company Sales secretary; Many years as local Election Judge; Brownie and Girl Scout Leader; Rockford Area Vocational Center; Wilson Center School Vocational Education Department-Retiring 1991. Following retirement, Bergner’s Colonial Village and Cherry Valley Human Resources Departments, retiring again 1999.
A life-long member of Rockford Zion Lutheran Church; Member of Rockford Board of Education Retired Secretaries Association; Charter member of Tuesday Niners Women’s Golf League Sandy Hollow Golf Course and member of Ingersoll and Elliot 9-hole women’s golf leagues.
She began playing bridge with high school friends continuing for decades. Donna enjoyed hosting dinner parties with family and friends. She was an exceptional clothing, drapery and upholstery seamstress and talented in knitting, crocheting and macramé. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, crossword puzzles, camping, traveling and dancing with her husband. Donna and Bob competed in Rockford Area and out of town archery tournaments and enjoyed deer hunting with friends in Canada.
If a family member, friend or neighbor needed assistance, Donna was quick to donate her time and help fill their need. She was intelligent, quick witted and had a wonderful sense of humor. Donna felt very blessed to have the acceptance, love, companionship and support of her husband’s brother, sisters, their spouses and loved their children as her own.
Predeceased by her parents, brothers-in-law Allen Sliktas, Rodney Swanson, sister-in-law Viola Sliktas, brother-in-law Anthony (Tony) E. Aden and husband, Robert (Bob).
Survived by daughters Michele (Joseph) Lindenfelser and Cynthia Aden; son Jeffrey (Syanne) Aden; granddaughters Nicole (Chris) Logan, Amie (Brian) Fleisner, Katrina (Anthony) Baker; great-grandchildren, Breanna and Bryson; sister-in-law, Dinah (Rodney) Swanson; sister-in-law, Leona (Anthony E.) Aden; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; Step-grandchildren Wahyu (Nelly) Raditya, Laras Christy Mangowal, Andra Yudha Mangowal, Haley Fleisner and Bryce Fleisner; Step-great-granddaughters, Christabel and Chloe.
The family expresses gratitude to Dr. Thomas Michalsen and staff for their many years of compassionate care, Northwoods Care Center for their round-the-clock, compassionate nursing and assistance and recently Sanctuary Hospice. Gratitude to Affordable Cremation and Funeral Services for their respectful care of Donna.
Memorial donations in Donna's name may be gifted to The Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation.
