Doris J. Hays

Doris Joy Hays , age 84, passed away peacefully on November 3rd, 2025 in Belvidere Illinois.

Born on August 21st, 1941 in Belvidere where she would spend her entire life.

After graduating high school she began a long career as an office worker with Mutual Reinsurance Bureau. She remained in this position until her well-earned retirement.

Doris's heart was centered around family. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Christine (Sean Sr) Hess of Belvidere; grandchildren Mindy (Jon) Erickson of Rockford, Illinois. Sean Hess Jr of Belvidere; and Damon (Kristen) Hess of Springfield Missouri; three great-grandchildren. Her beloved grand-fur baby Shelby added extra warmth and love to her life.

She is also survived by her brother William (Karen) Welch Sr; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who enriched her world. Special family friends Pat Burger and Margie McBride held a very important place in her heart.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents Mervin and Marguerite Welch, and by her husband and life partner Vester Hays. 

In the rhythm of everyday life ,  Doris found joy in simple pleasures- cheering on Nascar races , watching the Game Show Channel, and listening to country music as birds gathered on the feeder outside her window. These moments brought her peace and contentment. Doris also collected t-shirts from family members travels. A graveside service will be held on November 21st, 2025 at 11 am in The Coleman-Whitaker Cemetery in Bell Center WI. A luncheon will follow at the hall in Bell Center.
