Joanne Lorraine Miller, passed away peacefully at home the early morning of Friday, September 6, 2024. Born in a military tent, on Miami beach, to Edward Bicek and Lorraine (Sanberg) Bicek, on April 7, 1945. She was lovingly raised, from a very early age, by her mother and stepfather, Karl Numsen. She attended Oak Grove Elementary School in Libertyville, IL, in a class of only 5 students. Graduated from Libertyville High School and went on to graduate from Augustana Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse in June 1966. She began her career as a surgical nurse, followed by several clinics including one that specialized in home birth. Her last position was in senior home care.
She and Terry Miller were introduced to each other by their parents on February 14, 1965, became engaged on April 7, 1965 and married on June 25, 1966. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage having 3 children, Cindy (Jim) Fitts, Mark (Dawn) Miller and Jay (Christine) Miller; grandchildren, Cody (Kelsey), Stephanie (Steve), Tim (Kasey), Courtney (Brett), Katie and Ashley; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Beverly Redmer (Numsen); sister-in-law, Nancy (Don) Motyka and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joanne loved to cook, bake, and play dice and board games. Her favorite game? Sorry. She enjoyed life, visiting with family and friends, always offering hugs, and her infectious smile would fill the room with happiness. She had a strong faith, loved Zion and the people there that became her second family. She will be missed by many.
