Joanne B. Smith

Joanne Barbara Smith, 87, passed away peacefully in her daughter’s home on September 6, 2021 in Belvidere, Illinois after a short illness following a recent cancer diagnosis.  Joanne (Jo) was the daughter of the late Walter (Pat) and Lydia (Pohlman) Hauri.  She was their first born child who arrived on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1934 in Mundelein, Illinois.  Joanne is loved and will be deeply missed by her daughters, Kelly Smith (Belvidere, IL) and Cheryl Smith (Lakewood Ranch, FL), her adored grandchildren Kristin Fritz, Jacob Fritz and Molly Fritz along with her great grandchildren Emily, Katy, Allie and Jimmy Cassan.  She is survived by her sister Carol Wilhelm (Sandwich, IL) and her brother, Richard Hauri (Union, IL).  Joanne was gracious and generous throughout her life.  She enjoyed gardening, reading, family gatherings, soccer and basketball games, visits to Florida and so much more. 

A visitation will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 9:00 AM directly followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Union, IL.  A luncheon will follow the service as we honor and remember Joanne.  To ensure the wellbeing of all attendees, Covid protocols will be followed including mandatory masks and social distancing.
