Karen Henegar Obituary

Karen L. Henegar, age 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Alden Debes Center, in Rockford, Illinois.  

Karen was born on December 15 1937, the daughter of Henry Christian Schmitz and Iola  Francis (Jones) Schmitz. Karen married James Henegar on June 25, 1955 in Wayne, NE. He  preceded her in death on August 6, 2020. They were married for 65 years. Karen was a  homemaker for many years until all 7 children entered school. Then she began working in the  bakery industry with her husband. Jim and Karen moved their family to Dixon, IL to purchase  and run the Snow White Bakery for many years, at one time having 4 locations all run by their  children. Karen continued to work alongside her husband for Guttenplan and Walmart bakeries,  helping open up the bakeries and train their new employees. Karen spent the years after James  died spending time with her family, including 7 children, 21 grandchildren, 28 great  grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. She also served on a board at her assisted living  facility, and enjoyed visiting with her many friends that lived and worked there.  Karen is survived by her children, Debi (Curt) Gardis, Jefferson, Georgia; Mike Henegar,  Kearney, Missouri; Doug (Sharon) Henegar; Don (Nancy) Henegar, Dixon, Illinois; Rich (Renea)  Henegar, Punta Gorda, Florida; Pat Henegar, Sarasota, Florida; Tami (Tony) Shaver, Fort  Atkinson, Wisconsin; Her grandchildren, Jeffrey (Karen) Randall, Travis (Susan) Randall,  Kaitlyn (Kyle Abercrombie) Gardis, Katie(Joel) Falcone, Craig (Tracy) Henegar, Ashley  Henegar, Alex Henegar, Brittany Henegar, Kristina (Tommy) Pelekoudas, Brianna (Brian)  Newman, Jianna (Matt) Gagnon, Jonathon (Margaret) Henegar, Taylor (Earl) Towne, Hannah  (Aaron) Kalina, Tyler (Katie) Shaver, Tallison (Nate) Underwood, Taryn (Drew) Seyller, 28 great  grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild. 2 brothers: Dick (Judy) Schmitz, Boubonnais, IL;  Dennis (Nancy) Schmitz, Hallam, Nebraska; Kim (Steve) Ellis, Royse City, TX, and many nieces  and nephews.  

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Henegar; grandchildren, Shawna  Randall, Kyle Henegar, Kristopher Henegar, and Nick Randall. 

No services are planned at this time. At a future date the family will take Karen’s ashes to be  spread with James’s in Wisconsin at a place loved by James and Karen where a celebration of  life will take place.  

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses and all staff at Swedish American  Hospital, Alden Debes Center, and Heritage Woods Assisted Living for their excellent care of  Karen.
