LaVonne "Bonnie" Marie Holmgaard

LaVonne (Bonnie) Marie Holmgaard, of Rockford, IL, passed away at her home on January 11, 2025, after a lengthy illness. Bonnie was born on January 16, 1936, in Mason City, IA, to Alfred and Evelyn Monson. She grew up in Ventura, IA, where she met the love of her life, Dale Holmgaard, from nearby Thornton, IA. They married in June 1955 and raised three children together while sharing a love for golf, bowling, and camping. After raising their family, Bonnie and Dale retired to Lake Panorama in central Iowa, where they continued to enjoy golfing, fishing, and bowling until Dale’s passing in 1999. In 2001, Bonnie relocated to Rockford, IL, where she formed many cherished friendships through her love of golf, bowling, and her active involvement in her church family at Christ United Methodist Church. Bonnie was a talented seamstress and used her skills later in life to create baby items for layettes, which her church donated to single mothers in the Rockford area.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; daughter, Dawn; beloved grand-dog, Mattie; and her brothers Gene, Arlen (“Peep”), Dean, Alan, Mike, and Mark. She is survived by her sons Jerry (Norma) Holmgaard of Soldotna, Alaska, and Jeff (Cathie) Holmgaard of Loves Park, IL; grandchildren Jason, Josh, Mathew, Paul, Stacy, Lindsay, and Tim; great-grandchildren Sophie, Vince, Tyler, Theo, Rae Lynn, and Daxton; sisters Rita Lee, Shirley (Jim) Knapp, and Gloria (Mike) Kline; as well as many nieces
and nephews.

Bonnie’s family will host a visitation at Christ United Methodist Church, 4509 Highcrest Rd, Rockford, IL,on Thursday, January 16, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Graveside services will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Highland Garden of Memories, 9800 IL-76, Belvidere, IL.  Memorials may be made in Bonnie's name to Christ UMC Layette Ministry.  To extend condolences to Bonnie's family, please visit: www.affordablecremationbelvidere.com.
