Lois McMahon Obituary

Lois Marie (Darlington) McMahon, born on March 8, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, in Elgin, Illinois.

Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, William Robert McMahon; her mother, Bernice Umenhoffer; and her father, Alfred H. Darlington. She is survived by her two loving sons, Michael and Eagle.

Lois was known by all who met her as a kind, caring, and compassionate woman. She was full of life and brought joy to many social gatherings, where her warmth and spirit were always felt. She took great pride in her accomplishments, including receiving awards for her work as an editor of The Opel.

Lois raised her family in Lombard, Illinois. Following her husband Bill’s retirement, they moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas, in 1995. In 2016, Lois returned to Illinois, moving to Elgin to live with her son Michael and his wife, Roumiana (Romy)

Lois was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her family was a tremendous source of pride and joy throughout her life.

A devout follower of Christ, Lois lived her life guided by her faith, reflecting it through her love, kindness, and generosity toward others.

Memorial services will be held later this year in Mountain Home, Arkansas.

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life; the one who believes in Me will live, even if they die, And everyone who lives in Me will never die."
