Lonnie Franklin Obituary

Lonnie E. Franklin (8/11/1944 - 8/6/2024) passed away peacefully at home with his family after a courageous 13-year battle with Parkinson's-type MSA.

Lonnie is survived by the love of his life, Nancye, whom he met as a teenager. They have been inseparable ever since, their bond remaining strong throughout the years. They celebrated their 58th anniversary this past June. Through every chapter of their lives, including the difficult final years, they supported each other with unwavering dedication. Lonnie was able to remain at home thanks to Nancye’s devotion and his own grit and determination.

He is also survived by his daughter, Michelle, who credits him with her ability to stand up for what is true, question authority, and resist the pull of conformity. He taught her to be her own person, to support and defend the vulnerable, and to do the right thing even when no one is looking. Lonnie is deeply missed by his grand-nieces and nephews—Danny, Jeff, Heather, and Kyle—as well as his nieces and nephews, including Kevin, Irene, Troy, Scott, Will, and Wendy.

Lonnie is survived by his sister, Jeannie, and his wife’s sister, Sandie, and her husband, Jack. He is predeceased by his brother, Eddie. Lonnie also survived the losses of his beloved father, Robert, his kind grandmother, Ollie, and his spirited mother, Neva. He was close to his wife’s parents, Geraldine and Harold, as well.

Known for his tenacity and genuine nature, Lonnie approached life with a straightforwardness that endeared him to many. His journey was marked by a commitment to living authentically and cherishing the simple joys that life brought his way. Lonnie’s dedication to his family and his steady presence brought strength to those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his legacy of love and loyalty will continue to inspire.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share a memory or story of Lonnie on this page, celebrating a life well-lived and a love that knew no bounds.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Lino’s Restaurant on August 31, 2024, at 4:30 pm. Please email msnancyefranklin@gmail.com for more information.
