It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Marilyn Gustafson, who died
peacefully at home in the presence of her loving family on April 4, 2025, at the age of 92.
Marilyn was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
Born on July 20, 1932, in Milwaukee, WI to Theodore & Marion (Dallman) Schroeder. She
married Bernard Gustafson Jr. on March 14, 1953, and together they raised 6 sons. Retired
from Sullivans where she worked for years in the Bakery, she enjoyed caring for her
grandchildren and her pets, gardening, baking, bird watching and spending time with her
dear friend Lores Gunn bonding over raising their large families.
Marilyn is survived by her sons Clifford (Renee) Gustafson and Dennis (Julie) Gustafson,
Sister-in-law Geannie Schroeder, Brother-in-law Richard (Judy) Gustafson, Daughter-in-law
Sandy Gustafson, Grandchildren, Melissa (Jose) Errea, Tiffany (Matt) Buss, Randi Witte,
Jacob (Jessica) Moore, Dennis (Ashlyn) Gustafson, Britta Wood, Matthew (Sharon)
Gustafson, Benjamin (Ashley) Gustafson, Kirsten (Joe) Gustafson, Kaleb (Nick) Gustafson,
Joseph Gustafson, Nicole (Keith) Welch, Sarah Flint & Michael (Raqual) Gibson.
Great grandchildren, Bailey, Krista, Nathan, Aidan, Lance, Asher, Timothy, Summer, Abbott,
Mason, Judah, Oliver, Jeanne, Barrett, Madelynn, Morgan, Keith, Myla, Nicholas, Martavia,
Marissa, Mariah, Zeke & Riker & numerous nieces and nephews.
Pre-deceased by her parents, husband Bernard, Sons Shane, Gary, Timothy & Thomas
Gustafson, grandson Andrew Gustafson, Brothers Glen (Bud) & Ronald Schroeder,
daughter-in-law Denise Gustafson, sister-in -law Marietta Schroeder, sister-in-law Melva &
brother-in-law Richard Rasmussen.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated and caring people
at Northern Illinois Hospice for all their assistance and kindness. Please join the family for
a Service and burial, officiated by Pastor Aaron Platzer of Peace Lutheran Church at 12pm
at the Highland Garden of Memories Chapel (9800 Illinois Route 76, Belvidere) followed by
a Celebration of Marilyn’s Life also in the Chapel until 3pm.
Rest in peace, Marilyn, our mother, grandma, great grandma and friend. You will be deeply
missed and forever remembered with love.
