Marvin D. Burk, 61, of Rockford, IL passed away peacefully on Saturday January 16, 2021 after battling cancer. He was born July 3, 1959 in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas to James Elmer and Constance Marie (Reeder) Burk. Marvin was a Harlem High School graduate and a longtime employee at Warshawsky Muffler in Rockford. In recent years he was the caregiver to his mother & brother, whom he cared for deeply.
He was a friendly soul who never hesitated to strike up conversation with anyone he came across, always full of life. He valued relationships with his family & friends, and always took his children to fun activities while they were growing up. Marvin was a free spirit and believer in God and the power of prayer.
Survived by son Derek (Cassandra) Burk of Lake Zurich, IL and daughter Crystal (Andrew) Sicotte of Negaunee, MI. Grandchildren: Sienna & Everett Burk, Evan, Lydia and Sam Sicotte. Cousins: David (Louise) Burk, Louis Burk, Jeffrey (Linda Luce) Burk, Frederick (Vianne Clark) Burk, and Dorothy (Mike) Brogden, Calvin (Kay) Jennings. Longtime friend Lorna Sullivan and her family and several cousins, friends and their families.
He was predeceased in death by his parents, James & Constance Burk, Brother Elmer Burk, Beloved cousin Patricia Bliven, Uncle Dave & Aunt Bett Burk and Joann Jennings.
A sincere thank you to Drs & nurses for their care, also to friends & neighbors for their help and prayers during his battle with cancer. Visitation on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Fisher Memorial Chapel at Rockford University, 5050 E. State Street, from 1:00 pm until time of memorial service at 2:00pm. An additional memorial will be held at a later date in Jacksonville, IL. as Marvin’s ashes will be laid to rest with his parents and brother at the Diamond Grove Cemetery.
