Nancy Apgar Gallegos, passed away peacefully, on July 23, 2024, at home after an 8-year battle with dementia. Born March 8, 1947, in Rockford, to Richard and Dorothy Apgar. Nancy graduated from Harlem High School in 1965, went on to get her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Northern Illinois University. She earned her Master’s degree from National Louis University. Nancy married Rick Gallegos on April 8, 1967 at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Loves Park.
Nancy taught in the Rockford and Loves Park school systems for 28 years. She enjoyed reading, traveling, golfing, skiing and relaxing in the Northwoods. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church (now Second First Church) where she sang in the choir and played the handbells.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Rick of 57 years; sons, Paul and Nick Gallegos; grandchildren, Catherine, Olivia and Noah; brothers, Richard (Jean), David (Darlene), Donald (Chris) and sister, Wendy (Don) Schroeder as well as several nieces and nephews.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Dorothy Apgar and brother, William Apgar.
A special recognition to her caregiver, Tungalag “Annie” Myagmar, who was with Nancy until her passing. Thank you to OSF Hospice nurses, Krystal and Patrina and clinical support, Marilyn. Also, for the Pastoral care from Reverend Alvin White with OSF Hospice.
Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Second First Church, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Nancy's name to the Scholarship Fund at Second First Church.
