Nicholas R. Cooney Sr.

Nicholas “Nick” R. Cooney Sr. passed away on Thursday, February 13th at the age of 56.
Born on September 25, 1968 in Rockford, IL, the son of Carl and Sandra (Fossett) Cooney.
Nicholas attended East Highschool and had many friends he remained in contact with over the
years. Nicholas enjoyed reminiscing his glory days at Skateland, where he spent most nights
and weekends with longtime friends and best friend Robert Burt.
He was known for his humor, his infectious laugh and singing karaoke. Nicholas was always
willing to help others when he was able to. He spent many years of his life refinishing wood and
was the owner of Anything Wood Refinishing in Rockford, Illinois.
Nicholas is preceded in death by his parents, Uncle John Fossett, and Aunt Cecilia “Cece”
Aumann. He is survived by his sisters Tracey (John) Pozzi, Toni (Tom) Dole, brother Bryan Ullrich.
Children Ashley (Shawn) Cooney, Courtney (Mario) Cooney, Nicholas Cooney Jr. and 6
grandchildren; Kayden, Arianna, Jayce, Jaxxon, Jace and Nikko. 2 Nieces and 3 nephews,
many aunts, uncles, cousins.
A celebration of life will take place on March 30, 2025 at 3:00pm at the American Legion,
1011 S Alpine Rd, Rockford, IL 61108
