Richard Jack Blunt "Butch" 1942-2023

Richard Jack Blunt, age 80 of Belvidere, IL died after a brief illness on October 22, 2023.

He was born on October 25, 1942, to the late Richard A. and the late Mary (nee McIntyre) Blunt. Raised in Belvidere along with his three sisters. He enjoyed sports and did well in school without “cracking open a book.” After being drafted in 1964, Richard served two years in the U.S. Army where he earned a marksmanship badge and sharpened his basketball skills. He traveled the world during his military service and was amused to find his best friend from home, Keith Heitz, in Korea.  Richard was a proud contrarian, a jack-of-all-trades, and generous beyond his means. He worked for both Goldblatt’s and the EJ&E Railroad, from which he retired in 1994. He spent years doing things he enjoyed and never could pass up a bargain.  Survived by his children; Julie Lindley, Ellen (Mark) Lawrence, Rick Blunt, and Sara (Jerry) Bosse.  Grandchildren; Zachary, Katherine, Matthew Lindley, Mark, Emma, Nolan Lawrence, Carly, Brooke, Brett Bosse.  Sisters; Carolyn (the late Jerrold) Haley, Marilyn (the late Kent) Hess, and Deborah (Brett) Overton. Former wife Sharon (nee McCaffrey) Blunt, as well as nieces and nephews. 

A Memorial visitation will take place Saturday, November 11 from 9:30 AM-11:30 AM at Pettit Chapel in Belvidere Cemetery, 1121 N Main St, Belvidere IL 61008.  Inurnment to immediately follow.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family of Richard Blunt.  Affordable Cremation & Funeral Service is assisting the family.  To extend online condolences to the family, please visit: www.affordablecremationbelvidere.com.
