Robert Stuart Twyning, 76, of Lakewood, California peacefully passed away at his home on May 3, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Robert was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on September 27, 1946. He was the first son of Robert Vernon Twyning and Theresa Marie Visser Twyning.
Robert was a resident of Belvidere, Illinois for over 50 years. He graduated with his BSA from Western Illinois University in 1979. He went on to serve his community as a a police officer for 35 years working with the Rockford Police, Belvidere Policy, Grundy County Sheriffs, Ogle Co Sheriffs, Winnebago County Sheriffs, Rockford Park district police, and finally the Cherry Valley Police department. He also served his community providing security for many stores in the Rockford area.
Robert retired to California in 2006 to be with his children, grandchildren, and his life partner Mary Jenkins Twyning.
Robert is survived by his son Michael (Sheryl) Twyning, his daughter Theresa (Mike) Steffens, his two children via marriage John Naughton and Wendy Beaver, his 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, his brother Jim (Jean) Twyning, and his life partner Mary Twyning.
Robert was known for his love of singing. All that knew him knew if there was a microphone close by, Bobby T would sing a song! He also had his pilot’s license and enjoyed instructing others on the art of flying.
Please join us in celebrating Robert’s life as he will be honored with an officer’s memorial service through the Cherry Valley Police Department Color Guard.
The visitation will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023 from 4-7 at the First Presbyterian Church, 221 N. Main St. in Belvidere.
The funeral service will be on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 11am at the First Presbyterian Church and will be officiated by Pastor Bob Kopp. The burial will immediately follow the service and will be held at the Highland Garden of Memories in Belvidere.
Pallbearers will be: Jim Twyning, Rob Twyning, Stephen Benney, Austin Gille, Jan Noble, and Albert Salas.
