Rodney Wayne Goedeke
March 9, 1948 – January 8, 2026
Rodney Wayne Goedeke, 77, of Genoa, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, after a long and hard‑fought battle with renal disease. His strength, humor, and gentle spirit remained with him through every step of his journey.
Rodney was born and lived his childhood years in Galesburg, IL. He is preceded in death by his mother, Lois Goedeke. Rodney is survived by his devoted wife, Julie Goedeke; his son, Brent (Melissa) Goedeke; his daughter, Jennifer (Kevin) Kudelka; and his cherished granddaughter, Samantha Kudelka, who brought him endless joy.
A lifelong educator, Rodney spent his career teaching 5th grade and elementary P.E., making an impact on countless children. He held his students to a high standard while creating a learning environment where students could thrive and enjoy. His students will remember him for his kindness, so many memorable moments, and his infectious laugh!
Beyond the classroom, Rodney poured his heart into coaching softball. He loved the game, but even more, he loved the players — the girls he coached, including his daughter, who grew under his guidance and enthusiasm. Later in life, he found renewed joy in sharing that same passion when he was able to coach with his son, creating new memories on the field. His players remember him as a mentor who believed in them, pushed them, and celebrated every victory, big or small.
Rodney’s life was defined by love — for his family, for teaching, for coaching, and for the simple moments that made each day meaningful. He will be remembered for his warm smile, his unwavering loyalty, and the quiet strength that touched everyone who knew him.
A Celebration of Life for Rodney will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Genoa Veterans Home,
311 S. Washington Street, Genoa, IL 60135.
