Russell H Weeks

Russell attended Belvidere schools and Oahu School of Music, graduating their music program and ultimately graduated from Belvidere High School in 1949.  During this time he was a member of Belvidere's 1st undefeated football team of 1947. He also was a Boy Scout & Boy Scout leader during this time and for a total of 15 years.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as an Aircraft Engine Specialist from 1950 - 1954. He was also an ongoing member of the American Legion throughout his life.
He attended & graduated from the Colorado School of Trades with a degree in Gunsmithing in 1957.  Afterwards, he owned and operated the Blak Hawk Gun Shop in Belvidere from 1957 to 2005, buying, selling, trading and repairing firearms for 48 years.
Russell married Janet C. (Balle) Parker in 1975 & had 2 sons - Sterling Weeks and Forrest Weeks. He lived in Belvidere IL most of his life and moved to Oregon Il in 1999.
Russell also was director and treasurer while a member of the Boone County Conservation Council & bowled in the Edge-of-Town League at Concordia Lanes in Belvidere for 25 years. He also was a long time Green Bay Packers fan.
He was an avid hunter, shooter, camper and fisherman all his life, hunting big game in Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Wisconsin, Michigan, Washington, Ohio, & Tennessee and hunted pheasant & quail in many midwestern states.  He also loved fishing in Canada and did so almost every year since 1967.
He was a quite successful Trap & Skeet shooter with over 150 awards in various shotgun, rifle, and pistol competitions competing all the way into his late 80's. He also was a member of the Amateur Trap Shooters Association, the Rockford Trap and Skeet Club and a Life Member of the National Rifle Association.
He enjoyed talking about military history and firearm design and history.
He loved his family and his work and was predeceased by his parents, infant sister, and wife and is survived by both sons.
