Vivian L. Atkinson

Vivian L. Atkinson, 86 of Belvidere, IL passed away on August 13, 2022 at
home with family by her side.
Vivian was born on June 2, 1936 to Comadore Varble and Marie
(Stewart) Varble in Hartford, KY. She married the love of her life, James
L. Atkinson Sr. on November 17, 1956. As a charter member of Bible
Baptist Church, Vivian served as the church secretary and worked in the
nursery. Living a life of service, Vivian retired from Belvidere Manor
Nursing Home where she worked third shift as a nurse’s aid for many
years.
Vivian loved to travel with her husband, visit parks and camp. She
enjoyed reading, puzzles and hiking, and was always on a look out for
antique shops and beautiful glassware.

A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Vivian loved spending time with her
family, and particularly her grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as her adopted
granddaughter Lylli. Survivors include her son James L. (Lorrie) Atkinson; daughter Kay (Kevin) Giardini;
grandchildren Shawn (Kelly) Atkinson, Tamara Durdley, Ashley Giardini and Brooke Giardini; and nine
great grandchildren MJ, Mackenzie, Madison, Brenden, Lunara, Solara, Devin, Starla, and Cami.
Predeceased by her husband James L. Atkinson Sr, parents, six brother and two sisters.
The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Transitional Care of Rockford and Vivian’s granddaughter
Brooke for her compassionate care.
Services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Highland Garden of Memories, 9800
IL-76, Belvidere, IL 61008.
